Aiden’s Graduation Day | A Milestone 13 Years in the Making
In a few short hours, Aiden will walk the stage at his high school graduation, marking the end of one of the most rewarding and challenging accomplishments of his life. I stopped into the school earlier this week to ask about tickets, and as I walked out of the building, the emotion of it all hit me. For 13 years, we’ve worked hard to support Aiden as a learner and help him discover his full potential. Along the way, he’s been shaped by a village of educators, pastors, coaches, family, and friends who believed in him—and we’re so grateful.
So, to the moms of little ones who are struggling learners—
I see you.
I know how heavy it can feel to watch your child wrestle with things that seem to come easily to others. The extra effort. The long days. The scary moments when you wonder if they’ll ever catch up, feel confident or know that school is not what defines them.
Today, we watched our son Aiden graduate. By the grace of God, we both kept going. And step by step, progress happened.
So if you’re in the middle of it, know this —their story isn’t over.
Hold on to hope. Celebrate every tiny win. And trust that every path looks different, as your child is growing into exactly who they’re meant to be.
Cue the Laughter—This Shoot is About to Get Real/el
A photoshoot of Aiden wouldn’t be complete without capturing his absolute love for life. From the time he was little, Aiden (whose name means “fiery one”) has always been on the move. His easygoing smile puts everyone at ease, and he’s constantly looking for the next fun adventure.
As we unloaded the car and headed toward our location, Aiden was literally skipping down the path. I quickly pulled out my phone, thinking I’d struck behind-the-scenes gold—when suddenly, he went head over heels into a gopher hole. Without missing a beat, he jumped back up and kept right on skipping. My niece, who had come along for the shoot, and I looked at each other in disbelief—did that really just happen? And also, this is going to be great.
We wanted this shoot to reflect Aiden’s love for the outdoors, his passion for landscape photography, and the significance of his graduation—all in one session. I discovered this spot back in September and had been waiting for the right moment to return. I’m so glad we saved it for this milestone. The results were absolutely stunning.
Aiden prided himself on being my most knowledgeable grad client—he knew the poses and could predict what I was going to ask him to do next. Even though he much prefers being behind the camera, he knew how much this session meant to me and fully embraced it.
