When we decided to start Laura Perron Photography 2.0 in January of this year, Aiden expressed some interest in working alongside me in the business. It immediately took me back to 2012 when I had upgraded my Canon Rebel Xti to the 5D Mark iii. Aiden’s first reaction was to claim the old camera as his own, and announce to the family that he was now a photographer too. I distinctly remember him asking me to take him out for a golden hour photo session so he could practice. Even as a little kid he was able to take some great photos that he proudly framed and hung on his bedroom wall for years. That exposure to photography and learning how a camera works at a young age sparked an interest for him that has continued. While I taught him how to shoot in manual, it is my mom who has taught him a lot about composition. He has taken the input from both of us and paired it with his natural eye. As a result he has created many beautiful photos over the years.
Aiden is also passionate about the outdoors. I wish I could take credit for this love, but that all goes to my husband, Denis. They have had many adventures together whether it be hiking, back packing, biking or skiing. Denis is very talented at landscape photography and also taught Aiden from a young age how to take a great nature photograph.
Whether it be filming him and his friends crazy ski adventures at Sunshine Village or capturing photos on his phone, he has been working on his craft for several years now. Although he prefers taking photos of things, he has been having fun learning the skill of portrait photography. I have been so impressed with how quickly he has figured out how to capture a moment as it is happening to create something beautiful.
In a recent social studies project on the important of place he shared about how living in the West and learning photography are both important pieces of how he sees himself. While some may think it is crazy to partner with your 17 year old kid, I am excited. Aiden has been my constant sidekick for many years. Whether it is manning the sound board many, many Sundays at church for my band or cooking with me in the kitchen (actually, for me!), Aiden has been a pleasant partner. He is a great big brother to Carter and Piper, and I am secretly hoping that his involvement could pave the way for my other two amazing kids to be involved. Carter could be a whiz at all things organization and Piper would be stellar on socials and client interactions. We never know what the future holds, but we love the idea of growing a business es that have room for each of our kids if they so desire.
