Fall Recap 2024: Session 4 Johnson family photos

A Blended Family’s love story

At Laura Perron Photography, one of the best gifts a happy client can give us is a heartfelt referral. This summer, Holly reached out to us on the recommendation of a colleague. She had a clear vision for a photo collection to be showcased at her wedding later in the fall, and we were excited to bring her ideas to life. Despite a few scheduling challenges (flu season, anyone?), we finally connected. Today, we’re thrilled to share the Johnson family’s photos as part of our Fall Recap 2024 series.

The Vision: Capturing a Year of Milestones

The Johnson family’s story is one of transformation, joy, and blending. Holly and Matt, along with their five energetic boys, were celebrating a year full of milestones. With a wedding in downtown Calgary, a new shared home, and the excitement of becoming a cohesive family unit, they envisioned a photoshoot that reflected their unique bond. They wanted a mix of posed and candid moments to highlight their fun-loving energy and deep connection—perfect for their first blended family Christmas card and a special display at their wedding.

The Family: A Balancing Act of Love

It was inspiring to see Holly and Matt arrive at the session with five boys in tow, all looking sharp despite a morning filled with hockey and basketball games. One son even managed a quick outfit change in the back of their van, seamlessly transitioning from athlete to model. Holly’s grace and femininity shone brightly amidst her brood of boys, while Matt’s calm demeanor kept everyone’s focus and energy aligned.

Aiden, my second shooter and son, and I made the same promise we make to all teenagers—we’ll make the session as painless and efficient as possible. True to our word, we wrapped things up with a fun surprise for the boys, adding a playful touch to the day.

The Location: Griffith Woods—A Timeless Favorite

For a session with tight timing, we chose one of our favorite spots: Griffith Woods. Its convenient location and stunning natural backdrop make it a go-to for many of our Calgary sessions. This time, we encountered a bittersweet moment. A beloved fallen tree that had been a signature element in countless photos had finally succumbed to nature. While initially disheartened, we quickly saw its potential in a new way, creating unique compositions that perfectly complemented the mellow fall colors. Holly and Matt’s outfit choices blended effortlessly with the scenery, enhancing the cozy, autumnal vibe.

The Results: Memories That Last a Lifetime

Our goal was to showcase the Johnsons as a new blended family, highlighting their unity while also celebrating Matt and Holly as a couple and the boys as a brotherhood. We captured everything from tender moments of love and connection to fun, energetic shots that showcased the boys’ personalities. One highlight? Holly and Matt’s impromptu dance, a sneak peek of their upcoming wedding reception.

The boys also got into the spirit, striking their best “Top Model” poses for a dramatic group shot. To top it off, we incorporated a playful nod to their family tradition of pizza and movie nights—often ending in a popcorn fight. We supplied a bag of popcorn, and the boys enthusiastically showered Matt and Holly for a hilarious and heartwarming shot.

When Holly and Matt received their gallery, their excitement was palpable. They loved how the photos captured the essence of their family’s first chapter together.

Final Thoughts

To Holly, Matt, and your incredible boys: thank you for trusting us to document this special time in your lives. Aiden and I wish you all the best for your upcoming wedding and a lifetime of happiness as a beautifully blended family. We’re honored to have been part of your journey.
