Sometimes, life’s twists and turns are perfectly reflected in the weather, and this past week in Calgary was no exception. When I saw that the forecast was predicting near summer temps for a few days I reached out to my client. I was thrilled when she agreed we needed to capture the moment before the weather shifted. I have been dreaming up all the things that this personalized grad photo session could entail for a few weeks. In the end, the results were everything I was hoping for and more.
Britney and I have known each other for a few years now. Last summer we spent two exciting weeks as part of the same team on a missions trip to Iquitos, Peru. When you hike through steamy jungles, eat strange food and are more tired than you think possible, you really get to see the essence of someone’s character. Britney’s inherent kindness, caring nature, and willingness to give generously of her time left a lasting impression on me. In particular, I will never forget her willingness to play the role of big sister to my daughter while we were travelling. Additionally, I’ll always cherish the moments when she willingly braided my hair to keep it out of my sweaty face.
This session has so many elements that make for great photographic storytelling, and also demonstrates the uniqueness of a personalized grad photo session. Having Aiden willingly assist on this photoshoot was also great. From carrying gear to climbing trees for unique vantage points, I love the creativity and energy he brings to our shoots. His behind the scenes video footage is amazing. All his effort were worth it in the end as he captured one of the most stunning pictures from the evening, featured at the top of this post. I may be out of a job sooner than I think. JK.
