At Laura Perron Photography in Calgary, we’ve had the joy of getting to know the Champ family over the past few years. Our story began when their daughter, Britney, joined our missions team to Peru two summers ago. During the trip, she often laughed and said I reminded her of her mom, Michelle. When we returned, I introduced myself with, “We should be friends—we’re the same person!” Turns out, we do have a lot in common. Since then, our families have shared meals, laughter, and a growing friendship.
Today, I’m thrilled to feature the Champ family’s fall photo session—part of our 2024 recap and one of the most meaningful galleries of the season.
The Vision: Photos with Purpose
These photos were originally kept under wraps—they were destined to be Christmas gifts for extended family, so we waited to share them. The idea for updated family photos was sparked when Michelle responded to my blog post Why Family Photos Matter this past summer.
After ten years without a session, it was time. With their daughters stepping into adulthood, this shoot became a way to mark the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.
The Family: Bonded by Laughter and Love
It’s obvious from the gallery: this family loves being together. Britney once told us all about her dad Troy’s cooking while we were in Peru—she missed it dearly after weeks of chicken and rice! The laughter and inside jokes come easily, from stories about Ashley’s wild adventures to the family’s shared love of giving Britney a good jump scare.
Their connection runs deep, from working together on their property to spending weekends at the family cabin. It was a joy to capture their warmth, humour, and tight-knit bond.
The Location: Fall Magic at Griffith Woods
Like many families, finding a date that worked was tricky—but we landed on a fall evening at Griffith Woods Park in Calgary, one of our go-to family photoshoot locations.
To keep things fresh, we explored a new area along the Elbow River—part of my favourite walking route. The fall colours were vibrant, the light was perfect, and the riverside setting gave us the best of both worlds: wooded trails and rocky beach textures.
The sisters showed off their playful side with piggyback rides and riverside laughter, and Aiden even waded into the water to get the perfect shot. Team effort!
The Results: A Gift to Remember
This session was absolutely worth the wait. Their cozy, autumn-inspired outfits paired beautifully with the golden foliage, and their laid-back energy made every moment natural and easy to capture.
It’s always an honour when clients become friends—and when friends trust us to preserve their memories, it means the world. Thank you, Champ family, for letting us be part of your story.
